Radio: StevieSwing's Bio

"Embracing youth, and people in general remains the essential factor in keeping a scene alive."
- Steven "StevieSwing" Anderson

Steven "StevieSwing" Anderson was born on September 17, 1974 in Greater Manchester, England. By the time he was eight years old, he had already attained a fully developed passion for music thanks to his aunt, who gave him his first record player. His first genre of music was rock, followed by electro/breakdance music, which then gave way to '80s pop royalty Michael Jackson and Madonna.

...and then came New Jack Swing...

Around 1989,
StevieSwing was first introduced to Bobby Brown's "Don't Be Cruel" by a legendary Manchester Radio/Club DJ named Mike Shaft who also introduced Swing to "My Fantasy." Upon hearing these two jams, StevieSwing travelled to the city every week to spend most of his money on imported U.S. albums and 12-inch singles to find out all that he could about the New Jack Swing.

In 1992, a local DJ named Mad Hatter took StevieSwing under his wing and allowed him to run down the top 50 New Jack Swing songs of the year (which Swing compiled) on his Monday night show on "Sunset Radio." Mad Hatter also introduced Swing to another monthly show he ran called "Funkology" on BBC Radio Lancashire which he is still very much involved with to this day.

1998 and beyond...

Currently, StevieSwing runs various shows on Heywood Community Radio and has been a club DJ since 1998. His first residency was at an establishment named Benny's which lasted over two years and saw appearances by UK acts Ali, Truce, and The Honeyz. You might catch StevieSwing at one of the nightclubs he's spinning at in Northwest England these days.

To sum things up, StevieSwing is an avid collector of "mobo" (music of Black origin) from the funk/soul 70s to the sounds of today, but for him New Jack Swing is at the heart of it all.
